Sanath Nandasiri


 He is described by critics as the "influencer" of the Sri Lankan music industry, who "brought life to traditional music" in the country.

As a musician, vocalist, music director and lyricist, he is an artist who has won the hearts of fans in the country.

Personal information

Born on February 15, 1942 in Gothatuwa, Sanath Nandasiri was educated at Gothatuwa Central College and St. Matthew's College.

Sanath Nandasiri studied music initially under Wilfred Peiris and later studied classical music under Hemathilaka Dayaratne. He studied tabla playing under Mahesh Sinniya and instrumentalist D. R. Peiris.

He joined the National Radio in 1955.

He then went to India in 1960 to enter the Bhatkhanda Sangeet Vidya Peeth in Lucknow, where he studied under the excellent teachers there and returned to Sri Lanka in 1966, receiving two master's degrees in singing and tabla playing.
